	Paeonia suffruticosa - Strauch-Pfingstrose Paeoniaceae - Pfingstrosengewächse Heimat: Himalaya, China. Dieser kleine, bis etwa 2 m hoch werdende Strauch ist in Ostasien wohl schon seit Jahrhunderten in Kultur. In Europa wurde die Pflanze 1787 eingeführt.
	Die großen (10-25 cm Durchmesser) Blüten der sommergrünen Art stehen einzen an den Enden der Zweige. Besonders auffällig ist der rot umrandete schwarze Fleck an der Basis der Blütenblätter. Zu sehen an der Mauer zum Laurentiusfriedhof. (08.05.2004, M.H.H.)

Paeonia suffruticosa grows mainly in the Himalayas but also in small ranges in China. It is cultivated in East Asia for many centuries, plants were introduced in Europe in 1787. The large and showy flowers of this deciduous shrub are solitary at the ends of the twigs. Particularly interesting is the black dot at the base of the petals that is surrounded by a reddish margin.
