Salpiglossis sinuata Solanaceae - Nachtschattengewächse Heimat: Zentral-Chile.   Diese schöne einjährige Pflanze aus Chile wird in Europa seit dem 19. Jahrhundert kultiviert. In Chile wächst die Art von küstennahen Standorten bis zu 2000 m Höhe in den Gebirgen. Bemerkenswert ist die große Vielfalt an Blütenfarben, die von fast weiß bis zu einem sehr dunklem Rot reicht. Durch Papillen auf der Oberfläche der Kronblätter erscheinen diese samtig. Das brachte der Pflanze auch den Namen 'Samtblume' ein. Zu sehen auf der Etesienflur (07.09.2005, M.H.H.)

This beautiful plant is cultivated in Europe since the 19th century. It is native to central Chile, where it grows from sea level up to 2000 m in the Andes. Remarkable is the variation in flower colour, ranging from nearly white to a very deep red. From the papillae the surface of the petals and the velvet-like appearance, the plant is frequently named 'velvet flower'.
