Omphalodes scorpioides (Haenke) Schrank


Distribution
Omphalodes scorpioides is a plant from Eastern Europe that has its most western occurrences in Germany. The plants are from moist riverine forests. The plants are from the biosphere reserve ‚Mittlere Elbe' (Oranienbaum).

Biology and growth
The plants are winter annuals, i.e. they germinate in autumn und flower next spring. They produce a sufficient large amount of seeds that germinate moderately.

Conservation
Seeds are sown in the end of September. Thereafter, young plants are kept in flat trays with a poor soil. Later they are transplanted into pots with a diameter of 8-9 cm. The soil is poor with a high ratio of soil from leaves and the pots are watered not too much.

Plants are in the Botanical Gardens of Halle and at the Kapenmühle (Biosphere reserve: Mittlere Elbe).
