PROJECTS

1. Defense agains oxidative stress in "strict" anaerobic bacteria (T. Wolsch / B. Thiemer, A. Scholze, C. Doberenz)

  • functions of "new" selenoproteins as revealed by stress parameters and 75Se + 2D-PAGE
  • characterization of the selenoperoxiredoxin system of E. acidaminophilum
  • identification and characterization of enzymes for detoxification of reactive oxygen species

2. Osmoprotection in anaerobic bacteria (T. Wolsch)

  • identification of induced enzymes by 2D-PAGE
  • proof of compatible solutes formed

3. Glycine metabolism in E. acidaminophiloum (A. Poehlein)

  • biochemical and genetic characterization of glycine decarboxylase
  • function of the 11 kDa selenoprotein PrpU

4. Aerobic biotransformation of pyrrole-2-cyrboxylate (T. Wolsch)

  • biochemical and genetic characterization of the initiating enzymes:
  • flavin-containing monooxygenases of Arthrobacter and Rhodococcus

5. Tetrahydrofuran-Abbau in Pseudonocardia tetrahydrofuranoxydans (K. Wahl)
